Maternity studio sessions are very planned & styled photo sessions that occur in a studio and take more time, where inspiration can manifest into magnificent, beautiful-looking photos not found in an outdoor setting. We have a professional studio in Jacksonville at a private commercial building that offers plenty of space to create these magical-looking photos.
Maternity photography is a moment to capture your pregnancy and the exceptional feeling during this time. Generally, maternity photos are taken around the 28 to 36-week time frame; however, if you are expecting twins, the photos can be taken earlier. Don’t wait until the last minute to schedule us as we get booked up to 2-3 months in advance. Our fully dedicated photography studio is located in Arlington, Jacksonville FL. We offer maternity & newborn packages, along with 1st-year milestones. Our maternity clients can also use our client closet, filled with dresses, robes, and accessories. AN ELEGANT & TASTEFUL HOMAGE TO MOTHERHOOD
When thinking of your maternity session, it is important to decide what you would like to get out of your session and pictures. For some, a simple documentation of their bump along with their family is plenty to mark this moment. For others, it is an opportunity to showcase theirchanging maternal shape in a way that not only documents but honors the rite of womanhood. If this sounds like you, you might be looking for a Fine Art Maternity session.
Jacksonville Maternity Photography Guide
Pregnancy is a journey
Being a mom of 4 beautiful children, I understand the hardships that we must endure to create precious babies. Perhaps you have not reached these moments yet, from back aches, to feeling nauseous, swelling feet, and constant fatigue. We sometimes forget the most wonderful parts, such as having radiant hair like never before, glowing skin, and extra curves in the right places. Embracing the benefits can help ensure that you have the confidence that you should feel and sheer joy of what is to come. Your path to motherhood in Jacksonville, FL has some advantages, like not having to deal with snow, even though the cool temperature would be welcoming when you’re overheating. When planning to do your Maternity photo session, the first thing you will have to think about is whether to have the session completed indoors or outdoors. While both have advantages and disadvantages, you have to think of what you want to achieve with the photos. Below I have compiled a pros & cons comparison to help with the decision making process.
Sleep is an essential part of feeling & looking great. As sleep gets harder I would recommend investing in a body pillow to reduce back pain and tossing and turning all night. Taking extra moments to take nice walks will help relax you and reduce your stress. Yes, all these things will help make your photography session even more magical.
Typically we like to schedule our maternity sessions between 28-36 weeks depending on your personal comfort and availability. If, however, you have twins like I did, that shortens the timeline. The goal is to have some roundness while also retaining enough mobility for posing. If you have specific ideas you would like to discuss or questions in general feel free to contact us. If you are not sure how to pose ordon’t know what to do, don’t worry – we will guide you along and help you pose while making sure you are comfortable and, most importantly, enjoying yourself.
We like to schedule newborns at the same time as maternity sessions, even though they are tentative dates. It helps us plan for their arrival. Plus, your first thought is not centered around needing to schedule your photographer when you’re giving birth. I assure you, this is not what you will be thinking about at that moment. But, as with most things, when so much is happening in our lives, time will pass quickly and we are bound to forget to schedule these sessions or will get to them too late to capture what we wanted in the first place. We do book far in advance to make sure we can accommodate changes and do not overbook ourselves.

Maternity Milk bath Session
I’ve done my share of maternity shoots, but I must certainly admit that whoever came up with the milk bath concept is pure genius!
Not only does a milk bath gloriously embody the matron-hood of a woman in the prime of gestation, the canvas that is created with the milk, flowers, and contours of a woman’s perfectly round belly create a divine composition with all of the principles of design uniquely converging into an epic work of art.
A frame perfectly balanced in its asymmetry, and a poignant rose on a curved belly that creates emphasis, contrast, and unity all at the same time, while sprinkled petals, flowers, and limbs radiate with rhythm and movement. Alas, it is a milk bath perfection.
This is an add-on option we offer in our studio for a maternity session.
Day of your Maternity Session
We strongly encourage you to get plenty of rest the night before your session. Ensure to set aside any props, dresses, or special items you want to include in your photos. Arrive early, since sometimes traffic and other circumstances can cause us to be late.
Maternity Photography Session Tips
- Moisturize that belly!
- Gather your props to bring along – ultrasound printout, alphabet blocks that spell your baby’s name, baby shoes, stuffed animals, flowers, whatever you’ve seen in other maternity photos that you like.
- Wear whatever you feel comfortable and pretty in.We have a complimentary client closet, with many choices. However, you are welcome to bring in some of your own outfits – long, flowy skirts, especially solids, are nice, and strapless bras that coordinate with them. Tube dresses are great for showing off your shape. Bring a pair of regular jeans, not the belly panel ones. A button-up shirt also makes it easy to transition into showing your belly.
- If you’re doing semi-nude/implied nude photos, nipple covers or pasties can help you feel a bit more comfortable. Consider each gown choice and select appropriate undergarments: bras and underwear will create noticeable lines on your skin, so choose comfortable fitting or seamless underwear. Nude or skin tone colors are usually the most versatile, unless it specifically coordinates with the look.
- Do bring your significant other! Sweet couple photos can be a great way to capture the love in this special moment. If you are including a partner or children, they should bring outfits that coordinate with what you’ll be wearing. The focus should always be on you, your expressions, your emotions, your personality, your joy and your connection.
Pros & Cons in Jacksonville Florida for Outdoor vs Studio Maternity session
We do both indoor & outdoor sessions
Our Commercial Studio is located at 1807 Rogero Rd, Jacksonville FL
We created a great list for our outdoor photo spots Here
Outdoor Maternity Sessions
Pros:
- Nature – Natural elements in your pictures, such as the beach.
- Space – Especially if you are bringing your family to run around.
- Energy – The appeal of being outdoors and freedom to move around.
- Light – Capturing the glow from a sunrise or sunset can only be done outdoors.
Cons:
- Weather – In Florida, weather is unpredictable. Rain, humidity, heat, and wind can all be problematic factors.
- Comfort – Limited seating. Comforts that you would want while pregnant are generally unavailable outdoors.
- Distance – Some of the locations require lots of walking before you arrive to the specific spot for the photos.
- Bugs – It is Florida, after all. We get lots of them. Sometimes they can create difficulties during a photo session.
- People – Sometimes people like to get into your pictures or not allow space to take them at all.
- Privacy – Changing rooms are not always available if a dress change is needed. Also, nude or semi-nude shots may be difficult to achieve, not to mention uncomfortable.
- Restrooms – Not all locations have this available and this can addunnecessarypressure to accomplish desired photographic outcomes. Cleanliness in public restrooms can also be an issue.
Studio Maternity Sessions

- Weather – You don’t have to worry about rain, heat, humidity, or strong winds.
- Lighting- We can create effects with studio lighting that can’t be accomplished outdoors.
- Privacy – In our private studio, we can limit who is in our building so that you can feel comfortable throughout your session, especially when takingnude to semi-nude shots.

- Dresses – We have a vast client closet with many wardrobe options available only for studio use.
- Fine Art Ready – Images will have a clean, sharp look ready to print and display in your home.
- Restrooms – We have a large, clean, ADA-compliant restroom within our studio.
Cons:

- Sunsets – Yeah, those only happen outdoors.
